Israel aims to revitalise tourism in the West Bank

The Israeli government announced a 27 million shekels (about 6.65 million euros) investment aimed at strengthening the hotel sector and supporting the revival of tourism in the Israeli settlements in the West Bank, an occupied territory where these settlements are deemed illegal by international law.

The stated objective is to attract more visitors and bolster local economic activity, as tourism in Israel has fallen sharply since the start of the war in October 2023.

This initiative has sparked strong criticism: NGOs denounce increased support for colonization and for land restrictions affecting Palestinians, while some Israelis choose to avoid these areas for security or ideological reasons.

Following festivals, author circuits and themed journeys, hotels are tapping into the rise of literary tourism, a trend that is bringing more visitors to places linked to writers, works and cultural imaginaries.

Italy is preparing to experience an exceptional summer season, with strong attendance and hotel occupancy rates higher than those of several competing European destinations.

Travelers are gradually moving away from the traditional hotspots to prefer the northern regions, lakes and spa towns, while the growth of direct flights makes access to the country easier.

This dynamic confirms a shift in tourist habits toward more diversified destinations and away from concentrating solely on iconic sites.
