Placed this summer in safeguard proceedings by the Colmar Judicial Court, the association managing the Alsace Ecomuseum must now work on restoring its financial situation and preparing the continuation of its activities.

Created more than 40 years ago thanks to the commitment of volunteers, the site has become the largest ecomuseum in France.

It today counts more than 70 Alsatian houses preserved and has welcomed over 7 million visitors since its creation.

The Region thus regards the Ecomuseum as a facility that is at once patrimonial, cultural and touristic, contributing to Alsace’s attractiveness.

Un soutien pour préparer l’avenir

The €300,000 announced are intended to enable the Ecomuseum to continue its restructuring and development projects and to strengthen its appeal to visitors.

For Franck Leroy, president of the Grand Est Region, the site is an important element of Alsace’s tourism reach, beyond regional borders.

“In the face of the difficulties it is currently facing, the Region is here and stands by its side“, he said.

This financial support should thus permanently reinforce the Ecomuseum’s position among the region’s main heritage and tourist sites.
