The Overseas Territories Ministry and Atout France have signed, on the occasion of the Choose Outre-mer event, a partnership agreement to support the revival of tourism in New Caledonia. The arrangement, endowed with €3.5 million over three years, is part of the Pact of Refoundation sought for the territory.

The events of 2024 have heavily affected the Caledonian economy. Atout France will be responsible for working on shaping the sector, developing the offering, and boosting the destination’s appeal.

A shared diagnostic will be carried out in particular to identify priorities and to draft a tourism sector contract with local authorities, elected representatives and industry professionals, according to a press release.

The arrangement also provides for calls for expressions of interest to support projects in accommodation, ecotourism and eco-lodges, dining, leisure, business tourism, or cruise tourism.

Another part of the program will focus on the positioning and promotion of New Caledonia. Communication campaigns and marketing actions will be rolled out, notably on domestic markets and nearby regions such as Australia and New Zealand.

Training programs for professionals are also planned.

The approach will be conducted in consultation with the communities of New Caledonia, the three provinces, public establishments and tourism professionals.
