Information Comes at a Price, and So Does Misinformation

Publishing real-time information, sometimes exclusive, but always verified, cannot be achieved solely with artificial intelligence, especially in a specialized field like B2B tourism.

For our loyal subscribers, this reality seems obvious. That is why they choose to support us by subscribing to one of our subscription plans, in addition to signing up for our free newsletters.

But it is not the same for everyone. Recently, I spoke during an educational tour with travel agents. For the umpteenth time, since TourMaG began reserving certain articles for subscribers, the same comments have come up: “It’s annoying, you can’t read the full article”; “It’s too expensive, we can’t subscribe to every media.”

Certainly, a choice has to be made. To access our exclusive information, special dossiers, or investigations, it will cost you a little under €10 per month (at the standard rate), barely more expensive than 4 liters of diesel in the end!

Unless you are lucky enough to have a boss who believes in liberty and pluralism of the press and who decides to make this financial gesture so that you remain fully informed. And there are such leaders!

Beware AI-Generated Information!

We too would like to offer you everything for free, “as before,” but the world of journalism is evolving, just as funding sources are being redirected toward new media.

Subscriptions—and thus your support—are part of our independence and, for you, a source of information and representation of the profession.

Just as the arrival of Internet, disintermediation, or travel planners disrupted your trades, the press has also undergone its share of upheavals. After bloggers and social networks, artificial intelligence is now reshaping how information is consumed, especially with the advent of AI Overviews. And it brings with it a new cadre of players.

Across the web, information sites are flourishing whose articles are entirely written with AI… and who do not hesitate to lift information from media run by real journalists. At TourMaG, it’s simple: if some people criticize us for leaving a few typos in our pieces, they at least have proof that everything is written “by hand.”

Many of you may be outraged to hear about these pirate sites; yet some manage to be invited to professional conventions or trade shows. It makes you wonder if the professionals who invite them understand the journalism trade…

For example, alerting to fake news, as happened in February with this article: “ESTA United States: no, declaring your social networks is not (yet) mandatory,” running counter to what other media were reporting.

Verifying information remains the foundation of our profession and we are committed to it. That is why our teams practice fast checking, cross-check numbers, obtain exclusive information, conduct months-long investigations, and warn you about companies on the brink of collapse.

Open Doors to Meet Our Subscribers

Returning to AI, last week, during an interview, Jean-Emmanuel Chometon, CEO of Maisons du Voyage, stressed the importance for his team to understand how internet users use AI because, in the coming years, this technology will alter how people imagine their trip, how they prepare it, and how they question it based on the answers they have received.

He even added: “I think AI will force the entire sector to raise the bar. We will have to decode and analyze precisely what the user who has researched with AI asks for, and be even more expert and creative in order to provide ever more added value.”

The press will probably have to go through this step too. We already know readers have less and less time to read the astronomical amount of information they receive from all directions, not to mention that attention spans for reading are shrinking even as we speak.

That is why at TourMaG, our top priority will always be to satisfy you, above all.

In this spirit, we are organizing on Monday, November 9, in Marseille, an Open Day at our offices, 64 Rue Sainte in Marseille, starting at 12:30 PM.

Subscribers or not, travel agents or TOs, cruise specialists or DMCs, students or retirees, we hope to see you there in large numbers!

Not only to show you our offices or our TV studio, but to reveal our behind-the-scenes, how we work, and above all to collect your suggestions and comments on what you would like to see in our columns! (To register, it’s here).

In the meantime, for those who have yet to take the subscription step, know that your favorite newspaper is offering you 3 months of Premium+ access with no commitment. We take the first step; it’s up to you to seize the opportunity to choose us!
