According to the latest edition of the American Express Lifestyle Trends Observatory, 81% of them plan to depart before the end of the year, including 73% starting as early as the summer 2026. The Southeast of France, Spain, Brittany and Italy are among the most cited destinations.
The under 35 age group shows the strongest departure intentions, with 92% planning to travel before year end.
The study also highlights a shift in expectations. For 54% of respondents, the ideal trip is primarily about time for oneself and relaxation. The possibility to disconnect from daily life (50%) and to recharge mentally and physically (49%) also tops the motivations.
Peace of mind emerges as a central element in the tourism experience. Thus, 91% of the French feel that thorough trip preparation allows for a calmer departure, while 88% attach importance to comfort during their stay.
