The announcement was made this Thursday, September 17, 2026, just hours before closing, by Nathalie Desplas, Deputy Minister of Tourism of Mexico, and Miguel Eduardo Rea Falcon, Chargé d’affaires at the Mexican Embassy in France, on behalf of Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, Secretary of Tourism of the Mexican government.
It comes on the occasion of the bicentennial of diplomatic relations between Mexico and France, marked throughout the year by a series of cultural, economic and tourist events.
The day before, by the way, the evening “Mexico is trendy” gathered 150 guests — tour operators, travel agents, journalists and dignitaries — in the Gustave Eiffel hall, on the first floor of the Eiffel Tower.
Guanajuato, Michoacán, Nayarit, Jalisco and Quintana Roo presented their offerings, alongside an exhibition dedicated to the destination and an artistic program. This format foreshadows the meetings that will accompany the country’s highlight in 2027.

Show Paris the Full Diversity of Mexico
It should be noted that in 2025, France was the seventh outbound market for Mexico and the third in Europe, behind the United Kingdom and Spain, with nearly 292,000 French tourists arriving by air, accounting for 1.3% of international arrivals.
The momentum continues in 2026: in the first quarter, the country welcomed nearly 95,000 French travelers, up 2.5% year-on-year.
“Being the country of honor represents an opportunity to show Paris the full diversity of our country. We want to leverage this platform to bring our destinations closer to the European market and reveal to the public our culture, our gastronomy and the traditions that make Mexico a unique destination,” said Nathalie Desplas, Deputy Minister of Tourism of Mexico.
Already, during the 2026 edition of IFTM, Mexico was represented by a 280 m² pavilion bringing together co-exhibitors such as Baja California Sur-Los Cabos, Guanajuato, Michoacán, Puebla, Quintana Roo, Playa del Carmen and the Tren Maya, as well as hoteliers, receptive operators, carriers and car rental firms.
For three days, the delegation conducted numerous meetings with various tourism stakeholders, airlines, tour operators and travel agencies to strengthen its relations and air connectivity with France and Europe.
“Hosting Mexico as the guest country in 2027 extends what lies at the heart of IFTM: to offer destinations a space to express their singularity and to build lasting relationships with French professionals. The diversity of Mexican territories, the richness of their heritage and gastronomy provide a valuable source of inspiration for our visitors and a real lever for development for distribution,” added Marie Allantaz, editorial director and strategic planning at IFTM.
The 49th edition of IFTM will be held from Tuesday, October 5 to Thursday, October 7, 2027, Pavilion 1, Porte de Versailles.
