Summer 2026 confirms the strong tourist momentum in Hauts-de-France.

On the July and August period, the average occupancy rate across all types of accommodation reached 76%, one point higher than 2025 and five points higher than 2024.

The growth, however, is uneven by month: July gains four points year on year, while August falls by two points, notably due to a less favorable calendar, as August 15 fell on a Saturday this year.

Foreign demand also continues to rise. According to INSEE data cited in a press release from Hauts-de-France Tourisme, foreign overnight stays in the regional hotel sector increased by 5% in the first half of 2026, with particularly notable rises for the Netherlands (+13.9%), Germany (+7.7%), and Belgium (+5.1%).

Over a longer period, foreign overnight stays have advanced by 40% between the first halves of 2022 and 2026.

A regional clientele still the majority

In the same period, the French clientele remains overwhelmingly regional: 62% of French visitors welcomed in July-August 2026 hailed from Hauts-de-France, i.e., seven percentage points more than in 2025 and twelve points more than in 2022.

This trend confirms the increasing share of local tourism in regional attendance.

On the accommodation front, hotels posted an occupancy rate of 63.8%, virtually stable year over year (-0.1 point), while the outdoor hospitality sector reached 75.5%, also at a steady level.

These results reinforce, according to Hauts-de-France Tourisme, a model based on a substantial regional clientele, nearby European markets, and an offer tailored to short stays.
