The Grand Hôtel Spa & Thalasso in Saint-Jean-de-Luz will reopen on April 27, 2026, following its closure at the end of September 2025.
Upon reopening, the establishment will feature reimagined spaces, in keeping with this building dating back to 1900 and listed as a “remarkable building”.
The former thalassotherapy center and the spa, located facing the ocean, have been completely transformed. Technical improvements have been made, notably in terms of accessibility for guests with reduced mobility.
The common areas – reception, dining spaces and circulation paths – have also been renovated. The project was entrusted to Studio MHNA, which worked on the volumes, light, and materials, with a palette of natural tones and references to the local environment.
The Aho Fina restaurant will offer a dining concept focused on locally sourced products, while the Le Clipper bar will feature a menu of classics and creations.

A project led by the Elancia Group
The renovation was carried out by the Elancia Group, owner of the property, in collaboration with Studio MHNA.
The hotel, built in 1900 under the name Hôtel Terminus, was subsequently renamed Hôtel de la Plage, then Modern Hotel, before becoming the Grand Hôtel Thalasso & Spa in 1982. It joined the SFH Style Feeling Hotels group in 2001 and had already undergone a renovation in 2015.
The only five-star hotel facing the ocean in Saint-Jean-de-Luz, it comprises 52 rooms and suites.
The reopening accompanies an evolution of the wellness offering. The treatment menu has been redesigned around various approaches tied to relaxation, vitality, and well-being, using Thalion and Paoma products.
