Seto Review: Summer Partially Saves TOs’ Year

After a solid start to the winter, the plunge in sales in the spring, during the Middle East conflict, had raised fears of the worst. In the end, tour operators managed to save face for their 2025/26 fiscal year, thanks to a summer boosted by last-minute sales.

For the first time, the Syndicate of tour operating companies (Seto) unveiled its members’ data for departures in July and August, across all destinations.

They fell by 5.2% in the number of customers and by 5.1% in business volume compared with the summer of 2025, a relatively mild decline after the drops recorded in April, May and June.

« We managed to stop the bleeding »

In the end, the 2025/2026 financial year (November 1, 2025–October 31, 2026), completed at 92%, should conclude with an overall business volume of €4.21 billion, down 1.4% from the previous year.

“Given the context, this remains very respectable. At the worst point of the crisis in May, I would have signed for this result. We managed to stop the bleeding,” commented Patrice Caradec, president of Seto, at a press conference.

Belambra: 70 bookings for departures on the day itself!

In detail, Seto members transported about 2.73 million customers (down 2.6%), a shortfall of 70,000 customers. This decline is partly offset by a slight rise in the average revenue per booking to €1,543 (+1.2%).

Reflecting the concerns of French people about traveling abroad, metropolitan France shows solid growth in customer numbers to 238,000 (+4.6%), with operators sweating until the last minute.

“For example, we processed 70 bookings on the last Monday of July for trips leaving that evening, a sign of a level of hesitancy never seen before” says Alexis Gardy, president of Belambra.

Medium-haul: the mainland rather than the islands

The medium-haul market holds up with a 2.4% drop in customer numbers (1.93 million). The modest 1.5% rise in the average revenue per booking (to €1,101) helps limit the decline in business volume to €2.12 billion (-0.9%).

Some notable performances include Bulgaria (+56.8% but with small volumes), Egypt (+18.7%) or Morocco (+1.6%), which help offset more mixed results. Tunisia down 5.7%, Greece down 7.3%, and Portugal down 8%.

Within a single destination, disparities also indicate strong budget pressures. Thus, continental Spain rises by 10.9% in passenger numbers, while the Baleares and the Canaries, pricier notably due to higher kerosene prices, fall by 6.3% and 6.8% respectively.

The same pattern is seen in Italy (+6.5% for continental Italy but -15.2% for Sicily) or in Greece (+2% on the mainland and -13.2% for Crete/Rhodes). Facing these budget constraints, the French also shortened their stays, losing almost a night on average over the year.

Long-haul: the United States continues its decline

Penalized by the sharp rise in airfares and by access difficulties through Middle East hubs, long-haul shows a more pronounced 5.9% drop in customer numbers (562,000).

Despite a small year-on-year dip of 1.2%, Mauritius becomes the preferred long-haul destination for the French when booked through a TO. It now stands as a four-season destination.

The Dominican Republic continues to perform (+7%), China regains momentum (+34.6%), as does South Africa (+30.4%).

Conversely, the decline of the United States continues (-25.5% for the year). The reasons are multiple: sales disintermediation with French travelers who increasingly fend for themselves, but also the Trump effect and sky-high on-site prices.

Mexico is also struggling (-10.9%), as is Indonesia (-23.4%).

2026/27: a start full of hope

IFTM Review: Despite the Context, Momentum Is Regaining

Climats du Monde

The 2026 edition of IFTM Top Resa closes with a broadly positive impression among the exhibitors present.

“Despite a challenging environment, we felt that professionals were happy to come together and genuinely eager to move forward. It is truly gratifying. We sense that momentum is rebuilding, which is very positive.

From day one, we felt we were on the right track. And yesterday (Wednesday, editor’s note), we had a record day
“, the remarks of Marie Allantaz, head of strategy at IFTM, while not disclosing any figures.

“The aim of IFTM is above all to rebuild the bond with our partners”

“We had a wonderful opening, with the chance to host Minister Serge Papin, who was able to meet representatives from more than ten countries.

These meetings were highly appreciated by the foreign ministers. This also underlines France’s objective to set itself as a reference and to fully play its role on the international tourism stage
“, adds the organizer.

For Frédéric Pilloud, the digital director of Digitrips whose stand was situated on a main aisle, the contract is fulfilled: “We had very packed appointment schedules over two days and a half.

The aim of IFTM is above all to rebuild ties with our partners, but also to meet a few new prospects.

In the French market, we already know many people, so the objective is mainly to consolidate these relationships and prepare for 2027.
”

Strong visitor turnout at the TO village

On the TO operators village, the Quartier Libre teams also report a positive assessment: “From the first day, we had very good contacts. People who knew us but who had never worked with us before came by, as did major clients.

We met both prospects and our clients, including Belgians. On the other hand, the last day was much calmer: today there is hardly anyone and the number of meetings is noticeably lower,
” testifies Stéphane Dossetto, commercial director of the specialist in guided and self-guided tours.

The same tune from Parfums du Monde: “The first two days were truly intense. We had quite a few meetings, with many regular clients but also some prospects.

For us, the goal of IFTM is first to reconnect with our partners and our clients, even when they come from far away, but also to develop new contacts,
” adds Michel Jean-Richard, founder-director.

“An excellent edition” continues Stéphane Grillon, sales director at Ponant. “We prepared the show thoroughly in advance and all our appointments were scheduled. The format, with a table in the shared space on the TO village, allows us to step out of the booth and engage in much more operational exchanges rather than just making contact.

I am delighted with this edition, which allowed us to set numerous milestones for 2027. Attendance was excellent on Tuesday and Wednesday, even if, as many noted, Thursday was noticeably calmer from the morning.
”

France as a destination in focus

On the France pavilion, Corinne Giorgiutti, director of Hôtels Circuits France, is also pleased: “We were happy with the first day, which was more dynamic than usual.

The second day was closer to what we know. This third day is quite calm from the morning. The show is an opportunity to meet our clients, especially the coach tour operators.
”

Jean-Vincent Petit, head of Ty-Win, is also fully satisfied with this edition. He attended the show two years ago and felt a renewed interest particularly from French receptive operators: “Our platform enables French receptives to sell their packaged tourism offers in B2B. We had an enormous amount of contacts.”

On Destination France, Marie Allantaz especially highlights the success of micro-training sessions and workshops. “It was full“, she asserts.

The signing of the agreement between Entreprises du Voyage and Atout France also drew a crowd. For Marie Allantaz, these signals show that there is “a fertile ground for Destination France to unfold even more significantly in the coming years“.

A third day that struggled to draw in visitors

Based in Tech Zone, Fabrice Mundina, co-founder of MB3M, offers a slightly more nuanced assessment: “Tuesday was a big day, but Wednesday was a bit quieter than usual, and the last day even more so. For us, the main objective of IFTM remains meeting our clients. We don’t have salespeople on the road, so this is our annual appointment.

The topic of electronic invoicing also brought us more prospects than usual. The show remains high-quality; we must be present, even though we wish the Tech Zone were set up more centrally in the show.
”

Conversely, Jérôme Pouil, CEO of Itinerea Group (formerly Calafell Evasion) shares the same sentiment: “There may be slightly fewer people than in certain years, but the quality of the contacts is right on target.

We had new visits and, above all, new clients, which was one of our objectives. Our regular clients and partners also showed up. Overall we are satisfied.
”

The next edition will take place from October 5 to 7, 2027

Summer 2026 Review: It’s Still Too Early to Draw a Definitive Conclusion, Says Valérie Boned

Invited to Good Morning Business on BFM Business, Monday 17 August 2026, Valérie Boned, president of Entreprises du Voyage, outlined an initial assessment of the summer season. While bookings are retreating, the behaviors of the French are evolving under the influence of purchasing power, wildfires, and international tensions.

At the halfway point of the summer season, Valérie Boned believes it is still too early to draw a definitive bilan. « It’s always difficult to make a halfway assessment », she reminded Erwan Morice, noting that the season extends until the end of September, or even early October.

In France, the wildfires have weighed particularly on certain destinations. In the Var and Gironde, professionals have reported cancellations and changes of destination. «There is a wave of cancellations for destinations in Gironde, Cap Ferret, the Var, especially in outdoor hospitality », she explains.

“There is a budget issue, the cost of living”

Facing the rise in the cost of living, the French are also watching their expenses more closely. “We are paying very close attention to expenditures, that’s for sure: there is a budget issue, the cost of living, purchasing power is very strong this year in particular,” notes the president of Entreprises du Voyage.

On foreign destinations, “there is the domestic political context, a lack of visibility, a very cautious market, and then there was the war, we cannot deny it. For foreign destinations, we have observed a very significant impact for three months. The French were waiting, and the market finally opened up in June-July. We will now have to wait for the figures. »

BFM focused on two destinations: the United States, which suffers from travel costs and the “Trump effect” and Albania, which shows strong growth, close to 300% in the Entreprises du Voyage observatory, driven notably by “a good price-quality ratio“.

“When you have an intermediary who is a professional, you have a contact person.”

Valérie Boned also defends the role of travel agencies in the face of uncertainties. “When you have a professional intermediary, you have a contact person. If you cannot take your flight, there is assistance. If you cannot use the hotel you booked, there is a refund. That is the whole difference. Moreover, the French know this, as there is a return to travel agencies since uncertainties have multiplied and become more significant,” she recalls, as flight disruptions, notably the EasyJet strike and international events, can complicate travel.
