Valérie Boned Outlines Her 2027 Priorities for Entreprises du Voyage

The regional convention season for the Travel Companies (EDV) is officially underway. This year, the EDV Centre-Ouest, chaired by Yvon Peltanche (Eden Tour) and beginning a third term, opened the ball with a touch of originality.

For its event held in Istanbul, the regional branch of the employers’ union joined with the Sud-Ouest. “I was elected a few months ago and I wanted to relaunch the organization of a convention, which had been lacking in our region,” explains Bruno Abenin (Travel Evasion), the new president of the EDV Sud-Ouest.

Unity is strength and the rapprochement happened naturally, to save time and pool resources, but also with the idea of opening exchanges more broadly among members.

Speakers Who Captivate

About 80 tourism leaders (around fifty licenses) traveled to Turkey, complemented by 19 partners who presented their products during a workshop held on a boat cruising the Bosphorus.

The convention also provided a full day of discussions. The pragmatic and educational approach of François Gemenne, professor at HEC Paris and lead author of the IPCC’s Sixth Assessment Report, on the economic transformations linked to the ecological transition, captivated the participants.

Just as the intervention of Charles Tandonnet from the Travelsoft group, who came to talk about Artificial Intelligence. In the future, facing AI, the travel agent’s job will be to secure the client and to generate trust at the destination, he recalled.

Valérie Boned, the national president of the EDV, also used the convention to lay out the major topics that will shape the union’s life in the coming months, starting with an update on the conjuncture.

A Recovery That Remains Fragile

“Les chiffres s’améliorent progressivement après la crise du printemps, avec des prises de commande pour le mois de septembre qui progressent par rapport à septembre 2025, en valeur” a d’abord rassuré Valérie Boned.

“Nous voyons à nouveau des clients se projeter pour les mois prochains, qui poussent la porte des agences, avec de beaux dossiers.”

Pour autant, la situation demeure fragile. “Les incertitudes persistent chaque jour, avec des interrogations sur le pouvoir d’achat ou encore la fragilisation de certains opérateurs, notamment des compagnies aériennes.” Ainsi Volotea, très présente dans l’ouest, à Nantes mais aussi à Brest où la compagnie met en sommeil sa base pour tout l’hiver.

Cette prudence a été renforcée par l’intervention de Marc-Elie Caspar, directeur France de Convera, qui a dressé un bilan peu rassurant de la situation économique.

AI also occupied a large portion of Valérie Boned’s address. “We need to examine the issues, and support agencies with experts…” the president continued.

Thus, the EDV launched a project with two pilot regions to study use cases and help companies take the right path.

“We see that everyone uses AI, often in an intuitive way; but it’s a jungle, and this jungle is dangerous. If we don’t jump on the AI train, we will stay on the platform. But it is essential to regulate its use: which tasks do we entrust to AI, what place for humans, what rules for employees…”.

A Webinar and a Guide on AI

If it is impossible to draw up a standard charter for the profession, the union announces a webinar on Tuesday, October 6, which will present to members a guide enabling everyone to build their own charter, covering relationships with suppliers to the rules of use for employees.

This guide will then be distributed as a six-page document, with color codes according to the vigilance required for the various listed uses, from handling emails to managing disputes, including content production, photos, and more.

To better support members in rolling out AI, the EDV also signed, a few months ago, a partnership with the company Concentrix.

IFTM 2026: Valérie Boned Aims to Make Tourism an Economic Priority

« We are in a year that is very particular» a lancé Valérie Boned, présidente d’honneur de l’IFTM et présidente des Entreprises du voyage, à l’occasion de l’inauguration du salon.

Elle a rappelé les belles perspectives évoquées lors de l’édition précédente qui ont volé en éclat fin février dernier avec le conflit au Moyen-Orient : « Le 28 février et les trois mois qui ont suivi ont été particulièrement difficiles pour le secteur des agences de voyages et des tour-opérateurs. Cela a été un choc profond, avec, comme vous le savez, jusqu’à 30 % de perte d’activité en trois mois. »

Résultat, le secteur se retrouve dans un « environnement international extrêmement instable», bien que l’activité cet été ait « repris des couleurs ».

« Aux effets du changement climatique s’est malheureusement ajoutée la crise énergétique. C’est la pire crise que nous connaissons depuis la Deuxième Guerre mondiale. » a ajouté Serge Papin, Ministre des PME, du tourisme et du pouvoir d’achat lors de l’ouverture de l’IFTM.

« Nous sommes en plein cœur de cette crise, avec des conséquences évidemment sur notre économie. Nous la connaissons depuis le mois de mars et elle nous oblige à repenser notre façon de voyager, nos saisons, nos mobilités et nos modèles. »

La rentrée reste ainsi marquée par un contexte « fragile », entre les tensions au Moyen-Orient et dans le Golfe, le prix du kérosène et les inquiétudes liées au pouvoir d’achat. Pour les prochains mois, Valérie Boned évoque néanmoins « une petite dynamique positive » sur les réservations.

AI: “I think we are entering a period of revolution”

Au-delà de ce contexte conjoncturel, les professionnels du tourisme doivent également composer avec des transformations plus profondes.

« Je pense qu’on arrive dans une période de révolution avec l’accélération de l’intelligence artificielle », a-t-elle estimé.

« On a beaucoup pensé à l’impact de l’IA par rapport aux clients qui allaient se débrouiller seuls. Moi, je pense qu’il y a une transformation des entreprises très profonde avec une course à la compétitivité, et à la productivité, qui révolutionne vraiment les process », explique-t-elle.

La formation devient ainsi un enjeu à mesure que les technologies transforment les métiers et les organisations. Un sujet d’autant plus important dans une période où le secteur connaît de nombreux mouvements capitalistiques et les transmissions d’entreprises.

Valérie Boned, récemment élue à la présidence de la Confédération des acteurs du tourisme (CAT), prenait pour la première fois la parole dans ses nouvelles fonctions.

La confédération rassemble aujourd’hui 22 fédérations représentant différents métiers du tourisme. « 22 métiers différents, mais inscrits dans une chaîne de valeurs unique », rappelle la nouvelle présidente.

À l’aube des élections présidentielles de 2027, elle affiche plusieurs ambitions.

« La première, c’est d’être visible, et c’est de faire de ce secteur un axe, un angle très important de la stratégie économique et de développement du pays », affirme-t-elle.

« Il faut que nous prenions notre place en tant qu’industrie et que nous soyons reconnus comme tels. Cette ambition s’adresse aux pouvoirs publics, et notamment au ministre et à ses collaborateurs. Il s’agit de faire entendre que l’enjeu n’est pas forcément de chercher ce que l’on peut prendre au tourisme, mais de montrer ce que le tourisme peut apporter et comment il peut contribuer à l’économie. Il faut que cela devienne une évidence, ce qui n’est pas encore le cas aujourd’hui. Nous nous battons pour cela. »

Objective: raise tourism’s share of GDP from 8% to 10%

Valérie Boned a également fixé un objectif de croissance pour le secteur. Avec la CAT, elle entend faire passer le poids du tourisme dans l’économie française de 8 % à 10 % du PIB d’ici 2035, soit plus de 60 milliards d’euros de croissance supplémentaire.

La présidente de la CAT souhaite aussi faire évoluer le regard porté sur le tourisme par les pouvoirs publics. « Nous ne voulons pas être un simple réservoir de recettes pour l’État, mais plutôt une source de profit en développant et en accompagnant le secteur », a-t-elle insisté.

Dans un contexte économique et politique incertain, le message adressé à l’État est également très clair. Les entreprises ont besoin de pouvoir se projeter : « elles ont besoin de visibilité, de lisibilité, de stabilité », explique Valérie Boned.

Ces conditions sont, selon elle, indispensables pour permettre aux entreprises « d’investir, d’embaucher, de se développer ».

Le ministre des PME et du Tourisme assure partager la vision de la présidente de la CAT : « nous pouvons arriver à 10 % du PIB » a-t-il affirmé, rappelant au passage que la France avait accueilli 102 millions de visiteurs internationaux en 2025 et engrangé 77,5 milliards d’euros de recettes internationales.

A major tourism forum with presidential candidates

Pour Valérie Boned, l’année électorale constitue une occasion de faire entendre davantage les revendications et les ambitions du secteur.

La CAT organisera ainsi le 1er décembre prochain un « grand oral du tourisme », auquel seront invités les candidats à l’élection présidentielle.

L’objectif sera d’interroger directement les candidats sur leur vision du secteur et sur sa contribution à l’économie française.

Summer 2026 Review: It’s Still Too Early to Draw a Definitive Conclusion, Says Valérie Boned

Invited to Good Morning Business on BFM Business, Monday 17 August 2026, Valérie Boned, president of Entreprises du Voyage, outlined an initial assessment of the summer season. While bookings are retreating, the behaviors of the French are evolving under the influence of purchasing power, wildfires, and international tensions.

At the halfway point of the summer season, Valérie Boned believes it is still too early to draw a definitive bilan. « It’s always difficult to make a halfway assessment », she reminded Erwan Morice, noting that the season extends until the end of September, or even early October.

In France, the wildfires have weighed particularly on certain destinations. In the Var and Gironde, professionals have reported cancellations and changes of destination. «There is a wave of cancellations for destinations in Gironde, Cap Ferret, the Var, especially in outdoor hospitality », she explains.

“There is a budget issue, the cost of living”

Facing the rise in the cost of living, the French are also watching their expenses more closely. “We are paying very close attention to expenditures, that’s for sure: there is a budget issue, the cost of living, purchasing power is very strong this year in particular,” notes the president of Entreprises du Voyage.

On foreign destinations, “there is the domestic political context, a lack of visibility, a very cautious market, and then there was the war, we cannot deny it. For foreign destinations, we have observed a very significant impact for three months. The French were waiting, and the market finally opened up in June-July. We will now have to wait for the figures. »

BFM focused on two destinations: the United States, which suffers from travel costs and the “Trump effect” and Albania, which shows strong growth, close to 300% in the Entreprises du Voyage observatory, driven notably by “a good price-quality ratio“.

Valérie Boned also defends the role of travel agencies in the face of uncertainties. “When you have a professional intermediary, you have a contact person. If you cannot take your flight, there is assistance. If you cannot use the hotel you booked, there is a refund. That is the whole difference. Moreover, the French know this, as there is a return to travel agencies since uncertainties have multiplied and become more significant,” she recalls, as flight disruptions, notably the EasyJet strike and international events, can complicate travel.

Valérie Boned: We Won’t Be Able to Recover All We’ve Lost This Summer

Following the outbreak of the war in Iran initiated by the United States, activity in travel agencies had contracted sharply, pushing some players to resort to short-time unemployment and to seek cash flow solutions.

Fortunately, the approach of the peak travel period has boosted demand and revived last-minute sales, to varying degrees depending on distribution networks.

The latest barometer from Entreprises du Voyage provides an early summer assessment. It highlights a sharp drop in departures in August 2026, but also an increase in bookings in that same month.

By contrast, trends for the rest of the year are positive.

“From my discussions with members and the figures I have, I see that we will not catch up everything we lost this summer. However, the booking momentum for the coming months is moving in the right direction.

In terms of bookings for August, there were indeed many dossiers in the mountains and around the Mediterranean basin.

Thus, we are in positive territory for the late season, compared to the previous year. The momentum is fairly good.

The signal is rather positive, even though, cumulatively for the year, we remain negative. This means the sector is recovering“, explains Valérie Boned.

Incendies en Gironde : une dizaine d’agences de voyages concernées

This has allowed many businesses to regain some health, whereas in spring, furlough was on everyone’s lips, or nearly.

“I haven’t seen any cash-flow or needs for short-time unemployment arise during the summer, except for the exceptional case of a few agencies in the Southwest, due to the wildfires.

There seems to be no longer concern about cash flow and activity in the sector“, says the president of EDV.

Even if specialists in Asia are still suffering, the industry has saved face and appears healthier than in the weeks following the outbreak of the conflict.

Nevertheless, July was inevitably heavily affected by the terrible fires in Gironde, which burned a little over 47,000 hectares, i.e. twice the size of Marseille or four times Paris.

“About ten agencies were affected by these fires.

We worked with Laurent Menenteau, an administrator of EDV Sud-Ouest, himself affected by the incidents. We identified the affected sales points, then we worked to support those located in the sectors hit by the fires.

If one of Laurent’s agencies had to close due to the fire’s progression, the others were not. However, they saw fewer visitors, thus experienced a drop in activity.

Then we have members who rent houses or properties and who faced cancellations. We therefore fought to find solutions for these various cases, notably regarding business interruptions“, continues she.

On this point, the EDV looked at insurance contracts and unfortunately, for Valérie Boned, insurers’ solidarity in such a situation did not jump out, to put it politely.

L’État n’aurait aucun levier pour les faire bouger afin de couvrir les pertes de revenus de ceux qui n’ont pas été touchés par les flammes, mais dont l’activité a été plus ou moins amputée par la désertion des touristes et les préoccupations des habitants, davantage occupés à régler d’autres problèmes que leur futur départ en vacances.

Concernant les tensions de trésorerie, le gouvernement a fait des annonces afin de soutenir les entreprises de la région.

Climat : “Tout cela m’inquiète et interpelle beaucoup de dirigeants”

In addition to this picture of natural disasters, which are rising sharply and becoming more intense, add the heatwave that unsettled Tunisia, causing tensions in some hotels due to power and water cuts.

These events, which for the moment seem to have little direct impact on the clientele, worry leaders like Yves Verdié or François Piot. What about the president of the EDV?

“It would be astonishing if this didn’t concern me.

We are facing several difficult subjects to handle, such as the relationship between climate change and our sector, in the long term. The industry tends to say: we’ll see how next year goes… We must undertake real reflections and move beyond small steps.

We study and talk a lot with Laurent de Chorivit, the co-CEO of Evaneos, but also with Nicolas Dayot, with whom we discuss the reconstruction of campgrounds, the prevention of events and the anticipation of what awaits us.

All of this worries and concerns many leaders.

I think that, until we feel client pressure on destination choices… I read a lot, we also work with Carbone 4, but reinventing models is complex.

And, moreover, climate change is a huge societal issue; it is extremely complex, explains Valérie Boned.

A theme that is likely to become crucial to prepare the industry for the transformations that will occur over the coming decades.

It will probably be addressed during the debate organized for the 2027 presidential election by the Confederation of Tourism Stakeholders (CAT), on December 1st.

An event to be named “The Grand Oral of Tourism”.

“This is the moment like never before to make the voice of tourism heard.

So, on that date, we will welcome all candidates for the presidential election, all day long. We have already heard feedback from the entourages of the political figures who will run.

We will demonstrate what we represent and what we expect.“, affirms Valérie Boned.

Remind that the two rounds will take place on Sundays April 18 and May 2, 2027.

Because of this election, and to also give space to democratic debate and to allow members time to grasp the consequences, the next national congress of EDV should exceptionally be held after IFTM Top Resa, in September 2027.

Before that, the Finance Bill should soon grab headlines again in the news and perhaps also on TourMaG.com, depending on the government’s intentions.

“During our interview with David Daniel, I conveyed a few messages.

Given the political and electoral context, there is a strong chance that the 2027 PLF will not be voted in the Assembly, so it will go through fast-track. That could mean the government’s bill becomes law.

Thus, we want no more taxes, whether new taxes or increases in the TSBA and others, but we also want visibility for businesses“, sets as a course the leader.

Les EDV organiseront “un focus spécial sur la vente de la France”

Already, if new taxes or increases will be difficult to push through only a few months before a crucial election, Sébastien Lecornu has promised “a lot of discipline.”

Beyond political questions, the president of Entreprises du Voyage remains committed to the modernization of the union.

“My aim is to speak to all those who are not members, to achieve maximum representation.

We will replicate the Business Travel Club, which is doing well, into events, with a few representative companies from this branch. We will launch it in September.

As part of the IFTM, we will sign an agreement with ADN Tourisme, together with the new president. It will be a partnership aimed at organizing a France Week, at the start of 2027, between our two unions and thus our members.

We are finalizing the project, but you know this is a very important topic for me. It will be a special focus on selling France with our partners,” enthuses Valérie Boned.

A president who seeks to further refine the barometer which, after Orchestra, now covers activities with Civitatis and could soon include outdoor camping hospitality.

The objective is to institutionalize and strengthen this monthly meeting, as well as to provide a true reflection of the economic activity of our sector.

A busy roadmap, therefore, as September looms for travel agents.
