Business Travel: Fewer Trips, Yet Greater Strategic Stakes Than Ever

If demand is picking up again, hotel programs for companies, however, have not always kept pace.

According to FCM Consulting, many have evolved through successive adjustments without a comprehensive rethink of their overall operating model: suppliers changed, policies tweaked, yet the overarching architecture remained largely intact.

The report illustrates its point with the case of a large international group whose program was completely revamped. Following an audit of spend and booking practices, 545 hotels were contracted under a global tender, expanding the program’s coverage to 80%.

At stake are €5 million in savings versus market rates, and an additional potential reduction of €2.4 million identified.

The report also highlights an underutilized lever: hotel loyalty programs. Complimentary breakfast, lounge access, upgrades—these benefits can enhance the traveler experience without incurring extra costs for the company, and promote adherence to the travel policy.

The resistance linked to loyalty status is often underestimated during a program change“, notes Rachel Newns, Global Hotel Practice Lead at FCM Consulting. “If not addressed early enough, it can undermine procurement decisions that are otherwise well founded.”

The NH Hotels & Resorts group continues to expand in the French capital.

Its parent company, Minor Hotels, announces a complete renovation of two Parisian hotels, located in strategic districts: the NH Paris Gare de l’Est and the NH Paris Opéra Faubourg.

These transformations are part of a move to tailor the offering to international clienteles while highlighting the existing architectural heritage.

Situated respectively near major transport hubs and in the heart of cultural neighborhoods, the two properties illustrate two distinct facets of Paris.

The first emphasizes its immediate proximity to Gare de l’Est and Gare du Nord, while the second is set amid the lively Grands Boulevards and Opéra area.

A New Identity for NH Paris Opéra Faubourg

Located in the 9th arrondissement, the NH Paris Opéra Faubourg has undergone a comprehensive renovation.

Housed in a Haussmannian building dating from the late 19th century, the property now asserts an identity that blends architectural heritage with a contemporary aesthetic, drawing inspiration particularly from the world of ballet.

The hotel offers 101 rooms and suites, some with balconies offering views of the Paris rooftops, and even the Eiffel Tower.

The interiors emphasize a warm atmosphere, with references to fashion and culture of the 1950s and 1960s.

The common areas, including a lobby with a fireplace and a bar, have been redesigned to provide a setting that is both intimate and functional, suitable for leisure stays as well as business travel.

NH Paris Gare de l’Est modernized and Europe‑oriented

Facing the eponymous station, the NH Paris Gare de l’Est has also been completely renovated. The property maintains an identity tied to the railway world, integrated into a contemporary and streamlined design.

The hotel now counts 207 rooms, some with balconies, as well as several renovated public spaces.

The positioning of the property rests largely on its accessibility: located in close proximity to two major international rail hubs, it enables rapid access to numerous destinations in France and in Europe.

The offering also includes five meeting rooms totaling 152 m², intended for hosting professional events. The facilities are complemented by dedicated services (catering, logistical organization, transfers), strengthening the hotel’s appeal to the business clientele.

These properties complete the group’s portfolio in the capital, alongside the NH Collection Paris Ponthieu Champs‑Élysées, which was recently inaugurated.
