Finland’s Turku Archipelago Offers the World’s Most Unusual Job (Video)

PONANT

It’s probably the most fleeting and peculiar job in the world.

Visit Turku Archipelago, the tourism office for the Turku Archipelago in Finland, has just launched its “Get a Nose Job” campaign.

Thus, this unique place on Earth, where nearly 40,000 islands face the mainland, is offering to recruit a “nose” for a five-to-seven-day mission in the destination that has proclaimed itself the most fragrant in the world.

In May or June 2027, the fortunate winner will have to travel around the islands to “evaluate the scents of the sea air, pine forest aromas, saunas, and even freshly baked bread, and then describe them with enough precision to make people want to breathe them in.”

The experience must also be documented in photos and videos for the destination’s social networks,” states Creapills.

A job that calls for a keen sense of smell, but above all, it earned itself a spotlight that has been talked about worldwide.

The Turku Archipelago Is Looking for Its “Olfactory Detective”

To promote the archipelago, the tourism office had the idea of asking Lambert Wilson to let his nose roam across a few of the islands.

The opening scene of the video shows the French actor, well known abroad as well, in the middle of a conversation with his agent.

“When you told me I was going to do an ad on paradisiacal islands, I pictured the Caribbean, not the Baltic Sea.

What do you mean they think I fit the profile? I agree, Laurent, I think it smells very good, but I have better things to do in life than breathing seaweed
“, protests the French actor.

Then we follow for two minutes the Matrix actor as he traverses the islands, sniffing in shops, saunas, and the forest.

The spot blends humor with travel imagery, while concluding with the proposition to become the nose and ambassador of the destination for a few days.

This humorous touch is regularly seen in Nordic destination videos. Iceland, a master in this field, notably parodied Meta’s metaverse, formerly Facebook.

Sweden, for its part, reminded that it should not be confused with Switzerland, as this happens regularly.

The Turku Archipelago Is the World’s Most Fragrant Destination

“We are convinced that the Turku Archipelago is the world’s most fragrant destination. Neither Paris, nor Athens, despite what some rankings may claim.

But such a claim needs proof, and our own nose is, alas, fallible. That is why we are looking for an objective person
“, explains the Saaristo website, the Finnish name for the Turku Archipelago.

Potential candidates have until October 25 to apply. To do so, they must post a short video on Instagram or TikTok in which they declare their candidacy for the role of “olfactory detective”.

They must then choose an object, smell it, and give their opinion.

The job pays 2,000 euros.

Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines Unveil Their New Premium Offers

A New Premium Economy Cabin

The new Premium Reserve cabin will be offered on the Boeing 787-9 and 787-10, the Airbus A330s and some Boeing 737-10 MAX. Reservations will open in the summer of 2027, with deployment starting in 2028.

It will notably offer 38 inches of seat pitch, a wider seat, a leg rest and a 16-inch 4K OLED screen.

The airlines also plan to evolve their catering, with menus crafted with local chefs. Alaska Airlines also plans a new lounge complex of nearly 3,800 m² in Seattle by late 2027, while Hawaiian Airlines will open a lounge of around 1,200 m² in Honolulu in early 2028.

Finland Offers Unusual Job: €2,000 to Smell the Scents of Its Archipelago

Your nose can become, in this precise case, your best asset to land this atypical job abroad. Indeed! In Finland, the organization Visit Turku Archipelago is seeking a person with sufficiently clear nostrils to sniff out the pleasant scents of the Turku archipelago, which still comprises 20,000 islands. On the Saaristo site, literally “archipelago” in Finnish, the Nordic country explains being convinced that this region offers “the best smells in the world”.

“We now need a ‘Nose’ to snif f them and formalize this observation”, one can read in the press release, which shares a detailed job description and a promotional video presented by actor Lambert Wilson. “This is a genuine job, with a real contract and real pay. The only thing you need to bring is your nose”, it is stated. Jokesters, please refrain!

What missions?

The most serious and open-minded “noses” can apply for this five-to-seven-day mission scheduled for spring 2027, in May or June. It will be paid 2,000 euros gross, plus the statutory paid vacation allowance. Travel and accommodation will be covered by the local authorities. The work consists of traversing the islands guided solely by one’s sense of smell, exploring their natural scents: sea air, pine forests, damp rocks, wild herbs, bread fresh from the oven, blueberries from Pargas, or steam from the saunas of Rymättylä. Everything must be olfactively scrutinized.

The candidate will be required to document their experiences using photos and videos to first prove that the Turku Archipelago is the destination “that smells the best in the world”, but also to entice travelers to explore it. These contents will be used by Visit Turku Archipelago on social networks and other communication channels.

What profile are they seeking?

No degree from a perfumery school is required to apply. The ideal profile should be curious enough to “put their nose where others haven’t put theirs”, a lover of the finer things in life and comfortable discussing them on camera. The advertisement states that candidates must be at least 18 years old, authorized to work in Finland at the time of application and in May-June of the following year, and equipped with suitable gear for taking photos and videos, such as a smartphone.

Their presence on social media will also be taken into account in the selection.

To try your luck, you must publish a short video on a social network, Instagram or TikTok. The candidate should begin by introducing themselves, then pick an object, smell it, and explain what they perceive. “Show us your technique, because it matters. Tag @saaristo_finland, use the hashtag #SaaristoNoseJob and make sure your account is public so that we can see your video”, the announcement asks. Applications must be submitted before October 25, 2026 at 23:59 Finnish time or 22:59 French time. The name of the chosen “Nose” will be announced on November 17.

Croatia 2027: Breathe in Travel Offers a New Way to Discover Croatia

CroisiEurope

Croatia is no longer a destination that needs introduction. Dubrovnik, Split, the Plitvice Lakes, and the Adriatic islands have gradually established themselves among the European tourism classics, and the country is today widely featured in programs by tour operators and travel agencies.

For Breathe in Travel, this very success calls for a new reflection on how to present the country.

For the 2027 season, the inbound operator therefore intends to go beyond a classic lineup of must-sees and offer travel professionals a Croatia that is more confidential, built around an in-depth on-the-ground knowledge.

« La Croatie est aujourd’hui proposée par énormément d’acteurs. Si nous arrivons avec exactement les mêmes hôtels, les mêmes étapes et les mêmes excursions, notre présence n’a finalement que peu d’intérêt. Nous avons donc décidé de repartir du terrain pour construire une programmation avec une véritable identité Breathe in Travel », explains Quentin Billon, cofounder of Breathe in Travel.

Moving beyond the traditional Dubrovnik – Split – Plitvice

It is not about erasing the must-see spots.

Dubrovnik, Split or Plitvice will naturally continue to have a place in certain trips. But Breathe in Travel now wishes to integrate them into more comprehensive itineraries that leave more room for regions and experiences that are even less represented in traditional programs.

Istria, the Kvarner Gulf, Opatija, the islands of Krk and Rab, and the Croatian hinterland are among the areas where the inbound operator aims to strengthen its offering.

Historic villages, small coastal towns, vineyards, gastronomy, hiking, outdoor activities, and crossings to the islands enable the creation of trips very different from the image of Croatia as solely a seaside destination.

The aim is also to slow the pace when doing so adds true value to the journey: spending several nights in one region, using a well-located base as a hub, and allowing more time for discovery rather than continuously chaining together the stops.

A program built on the ground

This new direction comes with significant on-site scouting work carried out directly in Croatia and Slovenia by the Breathe in Travel team.

Charming accommodations, small family-run properties, apartments, boutique hotels, glamping sites, or establishments located off the most traditional circuits: the team aims to multiply alternatives and select partners directly on site.

This approach is part of Breathe in Travel’s DNA, which since its inception has favored destination-driven production over mere contractualization from afar.

« Nous voulons pouvoir expliquer à une agence pourquoi nous avons choisi un hébergement, ce qu’il y a autour, quelle expérience peut être organisée dans la région et pour quel type de voyageurs nous le recommandons. Cela demande beaucoup plus de travail sur place, mais c’est précisément là que nous pouvons apporter de la valeur », confirms Quentin Billon.

This search also covers activities and experiences: local producers, gastronomy, sea excursions, outdoor activities, island discovery, and encounters that bring a more personal dimension to itineraries.

Trips that do not stop at Croatia’s borders

Another distinctive feature of this new programming lies in Breathe in Travel’s regional footprint.

The inbound operator now operates across several Balkan destinations and notably maintains a Zagreb base for its activities in Croatia, Slovenia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

This presence makes it possible to imagine Croatia not only as a destination in its own right but also as the starting point for combined journeys.

Croatia and Slovenia, Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia and Montenegro, or longer itineraries spanning multiple Balkan countries: Breathe in Travel aims to facilitate the creation of cross-border circuits with a single point of contact.

An approach particularly appealing to travelers who have already visited Croatia and wish to return to the region from a different angle.

FIT, autotours, groupes et voyages sur mesure

The 2027 program will be deployed in several formats.

Self-guided tours will continue to play a major role, Croatia and Slovenia being particularly suited to this type of travel. Breathe in Travel will also develop chauffeur-driven circuits or guided tours, bespoke individual journeys, and programs designed for groups.

The inbound operator also intends to strengthen opportunities for thematic trips around gastronomy, nature, outdoor activities, and cultural discovery.

The objective remains the same: enable partner agencies to tailor the product to their clients’ profiles rather than imposing a fixed itinerary.

Group Travel: ATR Launches Tool to Evaluate Responsible Offers

ATR launched in September a scoring system for analyzing offers aimed at organizers of group travel.

This tool complements the practical guide published in April 2026 following a survey conducted between June and December 2025 among 148 organizations, mainly CSE and COS.

It is designed to provide a common base for evaluating the proposals received and progressively integrate responsible criteria into tenders.

The scoring rests on five pillars: environmental impact, human impact, carbon footprint, responsible communication, as well as inclusivity and accessibility.

A Tool to Aid Comparison

The criteria notably take into account respect for ecosystems, the program’s local anchoring, transport choices, the quality of experiences, carbon transparency, the fight against greenwashing, and accessibility.

ATR specifies that the objective is not to achieve a perfect score, but to provide a benchmark to identify strengths and areas for improvement of the various proposals.

The tool should also enable organizers to question tour operators and service providers about their practices and commitments.

The guide furthermore recommends integrating social and environmental criteria from the bids and terms of reference, notably by prioritizing, when possible, trains and public transport, accommodations that are committed and locally rooted, or activities that respect the environment and local communities.

Ukraine: French Travel Agency Offers a Trip to Western Ukraine

Aer Lingus

A year ago already, tourism professionals had traveled to Ukraine for a solidarity stay with the Ukrainian people.

In the spring, a new edition again allowed several industry players to discover the country’s reality, among them Jean-Marie Bernard.

The head of JMB Voyages, who went from selling dreams on glossy paper with Québec Le Mag to realizing travelers’ wildest dreams, as we reported in a previous article, then experienced an event that deeply unsettled him.

From that experience was born an idea: to offer, in turn, a trip to Ukraine, prioritizing the parts of the country spared by the conflict. It is an eight-day circuit, in December next, in the Carpathians and Galicia, around Lviv.

“During this journey, I befriended Olga Sansone (the director of Vacanture, a Ukrainian incoming operator). Before the war, she had six offices, but since then, activity has obviously slowed.

Following this stay and this meeting, Olga and I decided to give it a try. The idea is to help, with plenty of quotation marks, Vacanture to keep its head above water and to survive.

I am therefore proposing a trip to Ukraine, obviously in a conflict-free area.

Of course, that does not mean there has never been anything in this region, but I returned there on my own recently, and I heard no alert
“, explains Jean-Marie Bernard.

Travel to Ukraine: “I went to the country twice, in 2026”

A bet that may seem crazy, even troubling, and the organizer is well aware of it.

“I suspect that not all feedback will be friendly. I’ve talked about it around me; people call me crazy.

There is no financial objective for me, nor any publicity. I have visited the country twice this year. You know, this trip offers many beautiful things to see, but what will be most memorable are the encounters.

They are interesting for everyone, because they are also comforting for Ukrainians, who see foreigners who are neither diplomats nor humanitarians.

It is also a way to keep hotels and infrastructures, like the incoming agency, afloat while bringing, on my scale, a glimmer of hope
“, he confides.

Moreover, this is not the first initiative from a French operator.

Already in January last year, Nomade Aventure decided to create a journey in Transcarpathia.

A circuit that will only go on sale once the conflict is over, or at least when France Diplomatie indicates that it will be possible to travel there, changing the tint of its map, currently entirely red.

Just like JMB Voyages, the tour operator does not want to fall into voyeurism or dark tourism, but to offer a sign of hope to suffering populations.

However, unlike Nomade Aventure, for JMB Voyages, the Ukraine stay will indeed take place. It will run from December 10 to 17, 2026. It plans to explore the western part of the country, immersed in the Christmas festivities.

Travel to Ukraine: Lviv, the Carpathians, Drohobytch and Jovkva on the programme…

The departure will be from Paris, heading to Rzeszów, in Poland.

“We decided to pick a small airport really very close to the Ukrainian border.

We opted to avoid Kraków, because it is a large city and a very touristy destination. It would therefore have been difficult to pass through without visiting it. We really wanted to focus on Ukraine.

Then travellers will board a bus chartered by us to reach Lviv. I will be present on this trip, as will Olga, who will be our guide on this occasion
“, details the leader.

During the week, travellers will stay in one hotel, Leopolis, a mythical 5-star in the largest city in the west of the country.

It will then allow excursions across the region, to discover villages of the Carpathians, Drohobytch, a salt town whose wooden Saint George church is on the UNESCO list, or Jovkva, a Renaissance jewel…

“The idea is not to multiply accommodations. We have made the journey as pragmatic as possible.

I know the hotel, the restaurants, the museums, etc. I have no doubt about the quality and organization of what we will offer.

In Lviv, there is no problem. We will go to places not very far away. The center of Lviv has not been touched by the war, and fortunately, because it is magnificent.

There is a very intense cultural and social life. I myself was surprised by this; it is quite disconcerting. They live the present moment to the fullest. They are living life to the maximum present.
“, he explains.

This aligns with observations by Fabrice Del Taglia, head of Nomade Aventure, who noted that inhabitants live a normal life in a prosperous city reminiscent of Prague or Budapest.

Ukraine: “many people go there, there are many Europeans”

Now the task is to find participants.

And, unsurprisingly, the organizer does not expect a flood of applications.

“The main uncertainty lies in how potential participants will respond. I have no idea at all.

We are not at all on traditional marketing to sell trips.

The idea, to fill the trip, is to focus on people who have a particular bond with the country and the Ukrainians, such as associations, NGOs or friendly associations, this kind of audience. One has to be realistic: no tourist wanting to travel in December will choose Ukraine
“, Jean-Marie Bernard does not kid himself.

To depart, the trip must count at least 12 participants and, at most, 20 people will be admitted.

On the French Government’s travel advisory site, the country is formally discouraged, whatever the motive for travel.

Under these conditions, is it possible to send tourists on site?

“There are several legal issues in this matter.

The country is formally discouraged. Now, the recommendations of the MAE have no absolute value. The Court of Justice of the European Union explains well that these are factors to consider, but it is not because a destination is red that it is forbidden to go there.

It is also necessary to check whether there are indeed exceptional and unavoidable circumstances on site preventing proper execution of the contract.

In my humble opinion, it is not forbidden to send travelers. However, the fact that the country is entirely red automatically entails an insurance exclusion.
“, analyzes Chloé Rezlan, associate lawyer and co-founder Adeona Avocats.

Can a travel agency send travelers to a country at war?

Jean-Marie Bernard has of course asked himself the question.

“First of all, you should know that the country is not completely hermetic. Many people go there, whether NGO workers, diplomats, business leaders, etc.

I saw it when crossing the border. There are still many Europeans in general, French, Italians, Spaniards, Germans. Moreover, it is quite easy to go there.

As for insurance, travellers will automatically benefit from standard cancellation insurance, the cost of which is borne by JMB Voyages.

And medically, Olga works with a Ukrainian insurance company that covers all medical costs, as well as war risks. So, if ever an attack hits a place where we are, a response will be possible
“, the boss explains.

A way to respond to the doubts of the lawyer.

It should be noted that Jean-Marie Bernard maintains, like other French people, a special relationship with Ukraine since the large-scale conflict launched in 2022 by Russia.

“I hosted a Ukrainian family for a year at my home. In Champsaur, where I live, we also created an association of which I became president, Solidarité Ukraine Champsaur-Valgaudemar.

We have carried out quite a few initiatives to help these people, who fled the war, to integrate. In fact, I visited the family I had hosted this year. They now live in Kiev.

It is a very impressive city, which lives almost normally, aside from the alerts. Since my stay, the capital has unfortunately become a particular target of Russia, which makes life there very difficult today.

The trip we are proposing is more of a test run to prepare for the future, the post-war period. When life returns to normal everywhere, tourism in the country will no doubt be one of the sectors that will help reconstruction of the country and the nation
“, concludes the one who hopes for peace to restore Ukraine’s grandeur and its tourism.

Marseille Employment and Tourism Forum: Over 330 Job Offers (Video)

CroisiEurope
