EasyJet Strike: Days Ahead of a New Walkout, Is There a Way Out of the Crisis?

MSC Croisières

While the sky grows dark over French air travel and strike notices multiply, including the latest one issued by Volotea pilots, a piece of good news is emerging on the easyJet side.

Labor unions of the low-cost carrier had been the first to raise the stakes, due to structural instability and increasing scheduling volatility.

By July, discontent was mounting, and then a strike notice had been filed by several PNC unions, including SNPNC-FO of the company.

It ran from August 7 to September 2, 2026.

Last week, the main union flexed its muscles in the face of a management team that had said “no to almost all the proposals we have made“, as William Bourdon, the SNPNC-FO section secretary, told us.

The previous weekend, the low-cost carrier endured the most significant strike movement in its history, leading to the cancellation of nearly 180 flights.

And as another weekend of walkouts loomed, the EasyJet France management backed down and resumed talks with the unions.

According to our information, staff representatives are expressing satisfaction with the advances and proposals that have been offered to them.

easyJet France: the strike notice is suspended!

We have decided to suspend the strike notice due to a relatively satisfactory proposal that was put to us by management“, William Bourdon told us.

At the moment we are writing these lines, we do not yet know the solutions advanced to address this scheduling stability issue.

We are told that the advances being outlined are enough to stop the movement.

If it is hoped that these measures will have a significant and rapid impact on the issue highlighted in exclusive coverage by TourMaG.com, management has also put in place financial compensation for the abrupt changes to schedules.

A survey has been launched by the unions among their members to determine whether these proposals meet their expectations. It is to run until September 1.

There is therefore no strike directive, nor strikers, until the end of the survey.

Depending on the results, which so far favor resolving the conflict, we will sign an agreement starting on September 2. The strike notice will then be definitively lifted, once the signatures are affixed to the document
“, the unionist said with satisfaction.

Once this page closes, if no unfortunate reversal occurs, discussions on NAO, another thorny topic, will then begin.

The skies are rumbling over France.

Notices of strikes pile up, and flight crews, whether cabin crew (PNC) or technical crew (PNT), publicly show their fatigue. After the turbulence involving easyJet France and Volotea, it is now French bee’s turn to take to the streets.

As we revealed to you, the SNPNC-FO of French bee filed a strike notice from August 27 to 31. While management announces that its program is fully guaranteed, the union side congratulates itself on a strong commitment.

All of the PNC at our Réunion base are on strike. In Orly, 90% of the cabin supervisors and their substitutes are mobilized, along with a large part of the permanent staff.

The fixed-term contracts (CDD) cannot go on strike due to the precarious nature of their contracts.

Management has sent in people from the leadership to fill the gaps and ensure the flights. Our PNC leader is on the flights, all the instructors as well, and there are almost no cabin supervisors available.

To avoid canceling flights, the company chartered aircraft from Wamos, notably on the route to New York. A flight to Los Angeles has just been canceled and another to Miami could soon follow
“, recounts a representative of the SNPNC-FO.

French bee: “Management is in denial”

The management confirmed to us the cancellation of flight BF730, scheduled Friday from Orly to Los Angeles. Passengers, however, were rebooked on a flight operated by the company.

The flight to Miami remains scheduled.

Since the movement began, several PNC have reported ten schedule changes in a day. It has become almost unreadable.

We are striking to highlight the schedule changes and the growing fatigue, but that ends up worsening the problem instead of solving it.

Management is in denial and continues a practice common to them, namely changing rosters at will
“, laments a staff representative.

The two sides seem to be entrenched in their positions.

On one side, management says it remains at the union’s disposal to find a way out of the conflict.

On the other, the employee representative tells us that the latest exchange, last Tuesday, ended with a firm stance, refusing any dialogue while the strike continues.

To read: easyJet France: heading for a second August weekend of strike action!

There is no opening of dialogue; that is a catchphrase for the media. They prefer to take care of their customers rather than their employees.

The instability of rosters is not new this year, but it has worsened in 2026. By reducing Tahiti services, rotations are becoming shorter and shorter.

The situation is worrying for crew fatigue and their mental health,
explains the employee representative.

French bee: “By focusing only on low cost, they have forgotten the human”

The staff representatives have been warning management for more than a year now.

Meetings and extraordinary Works Council sessions have been held to address the situation of PNC on the Tahiti flight.

If, on paper, the company is compliant with rest regulations, it is circumventing all other rules around it.

There have been two grave and imminent dangers on this specific route. The inspection and occupational medicine have been included in these exchanges. No one took us seriously, but at this level of fatigue you feel like you are intoxicated. There have been car accidents, we have colleagues in tears because they can no longer even see their children.

We issued a right to alert, with no response. We knocked on the DGAC’s door to ask for help. They told us they had noted a surge in fatigue reports from PNC in general, both cabin crew and pilots
“, explains the union representative.

Sometimes, between 48 hours on Miami-bound flights and 24 hours on New York-bound flights, employees have only one day of rest. The prospect of returning to a normal life remains difficult under these conditions.

An expert assessment was also commissioned, but all these steps collided with the war in Iran.

The strike notice filed in April had to be postponed due to the consequences of the conflict on global aviation. In return, management made a financial gesture and granted a 48-hour notice period during which management should not tamper with rosters.

Except that this rule did not apply when we were in layovers; we were still subjected to changes.

We are a low-cost carrier, I understand that the company must make money, but there is no need to overdo it. They do not want to increase staffing.

At the beginning of August, we issued another alert, then the expert also alerted management about the situation after surveying 300 PNC
” confirms this same person.

The person mandated by the Works Council to provide an update on the matter would have found physical and general malaise among the employees, according to the SNPNC-FO representative.

French bee: without an answer, “we will renew the strike notice”

On top of that, there is a depreciation of earnings.

Because of shorter rotations, PNC salaries would have fallen. We are far from the glamorous image of being a steward or a hostess.

By focusing only on low cost, they have forgotten the human. I am paid 40% less than my colleagues at Air Caraïbes.

We love our company, our job, our planes and our passengers, and we knew what we were getting into. There is a contempt for our profession in the group’s offices.

The base is very fired up. Moreover, preferring to give money to Wamos while telling us the company has no money… It is scandalous.

They want to show everyone that we will not win, us employees. But we are the losers in this conflict, because we are losing money,
” laments the chief cabin crew.

You can see it, the split is complete.

Each side remains entrenched in its positions, and no one seems capable or willing to take a step toward the other. And while charters cost hundreds of thousands of euros per day of strike, the end of the strike notice approaches.

If, by August 31, we have not heard back from the company, we will renew the notice and the movement, until discussions begin.

Nevertheless, I still have a bit of hope in our new CEO, Géry Mortreux. He tried to find a way out just before we went on strike, but he did not have all the background,” says a representative of the SNPNC-FO.

The growing unrest is increasingly loud in the cabins of low-cost carriers and within the Dubreuil group…

New Strike Looms for easyJet France

TAP Air Portugal

Same old story. The cards are not in the hands of EasyJet France’s management, but in the hands of the unions.

The management had managed to quell the biggest social blaze in its history, with the inter-union strike by the cabin crew, which protested against institutionalized and increasing scheduling instability. On the eve of a new walkout, a fresh flare has just broken out.

We have learned that EasyJet’s National Pilots Union (SNPL) filed a strike notice on the evening of Thursday, September 3.

The anger has reached the fore of the low-cost’s aircraft.

While management had said it would not negotiate under the threat of a walkout, it ultimately had to yield due to the movement’s intensity and cost, as we revealed in a previous article.

Did the pilots seize the opening that had just appeared to push for a win?

Time will tell. In any case, discontent is audible in the cockpits of easyJet France, for reasons partly similar to those of their fellow cabin crew and flight attendants.

easyJet France: a strike notice during a September weekend

This time, the strike is intended to be rapid.

It will not run for several weeks, as was the case for the cabin crew.

The notice therefore outlines a social movement from September 13 at 04:59 to September 14 at 23:59.

A anger that fits within the framework of the NAO, the mandatory annual negotiations, which stretched over four months. The union laments meetings that were too rare, weak arguments, limited progress, and the absence of commitments from management.

The Company expects you to be flexible every day to keep the operation running. It expects you to absorb disruptions, to accept changes in the schedule, to ensure difficult rotations, and to keep delivering“, explains the union leaflet.

Facing this high flexibility demanded of pilots, the SNPL deplores the lack of commitments to reduce fatigue and improve working conditions. It explains that the management states that now is not the right moment and hints at 2028, perhaps, as the appropriate year to advance on these topics.

The pilots do not want to wait.

The strike notice was communicated to the company on August 27, 2026. The staff representatives waited before publishing it, to give one last chance for dialogue.

easyJet France: “why should we invest in our pilots?”

But the latest discussions did not meet expectations. The SNPL denounces the gradual collapse of a dignified social dialogue.

The proposal involved a base salary increase of 3.7%, then in 2027 an increase that would be 2% above the consumer price index.

In addition, to finance ancillary measures, it was proposed to “reduce the base salary increase for all grades“. Across the entire low-cost network, pilots’ salary increases would likely range between 5% and 10% per year.

Other measures were also on the table, but they were too far from expectations. The proposal was therefore not submitted to a vote by SNPL members.

Moreover, a sentence reportedly uttered by the union seems to have lit the fuse.

When asked by the management to reward pilots faithful to the orange uniform, the response was: “why should we invest in our pilots?”

In addition, as with the cabin crew, there was a great daily instability in rosters, which reportedly reached 50.56% over the last two years, according to the document.

The management has chosen not to listen. It wants our flexibility, our loyalty and our engagement, while refusing to grant us stability, meaningful protections, or even a functional social dialogue“, concludes the leaflet.

Note that in a few days, the cabin crew’s NAO negotiations should also begin… in an explosive climate.

Volotea to Cut Capacity in France Amid Strike

TAP Air Portugal

Low-cost air travel in France is in the midst of a storm.

Since mid-August, strikes have been piling up and the latest concerns Volotea, a company that is having a difficult year in 2026.

From now on, it faces a rare pilots’ strike that extends over the weekend of September 4-6, 2026.

The staff face pressures and subtle threats from management.

There is a possibility of circumventing, since the company is reassembling crews to operate flights during this strike, with staff coming from Barcelona.

It prefers to absorb the impact of this strike rather than improve our working conditions
, explique Patrick Marciniak, délégué du SNPL.

Volotea: “cutbacks in the French bases”

And this practice, bordering on legality according to the Volotea pilot, is not the only thing shocking the occupants of the low-cost cockpits.

The management acknowledged our strike notice by telling us they would get back to us in the course of the following week.

And they did come back to announce an extraordinary CSE to discuss a cutback on some bases, without mentioning the strike at any point.

Volotea justifies the activity slowdown at its bases by kerosene

This CSE extraordinary indeed took place and it did not even respect the legal framework for such meetings.

The consultation and the opinion were requested at the same meeting, rather than respecting the one-month notice.

It was explained to us that the activity reduction at the bases was linked to the rise in kerosene prices. But this announcement was made at the moment we filed the notice

In low-cost airlines, unlike a legacy, fuel is often the primary expense. Payroll comes in second, third, or even fourth.

Volotea uses to the maximum what is allowed by the European framework.

This means we have schedules that can include several days with four flights per day for crews. And the days are becoming increasingly hard in succession. You start your first day at 5 a.m. to end the week with two night flights.

Or you take your last flight at 9 p.m., to arrive at the hotel a few hours later and resume the next day with a 7 a.m. flight, without having slept. We want the company to rethink its methodology for building schedules

Meetings in ministerial offices are stacking up for the interunion of cabin crew members (PNC). Each time, they leave a sense of things unfinished for the profession’s representatives.

The first one took place with Philippe Tabarot, nearly two weeks ago, as we disclosed to you.

The Minister of Transport acknowledged the particularities of the PNC regarding the employment-retirement accrual reform (CER) and stated that he would support, with the Prime Minister, the interunion’s proposal to exclude this group from the text.

Earlier this week, it was the turn of the Ministry of Labor to receive the representatives.

The technical and legal advisers of Jean-Pierre Farandou recognized that the “cabin crew are the great forgotten ones of this reform” and that their “demands are legitimate given the specifics” of their professions and of the CRPN.

If the union flyer drafted after this meeting aims to be positive, it also reveals shortcomings in the ministry’s commitment to resolve the issue.

A massive strike, affecting all companies, is still not to be ruled out, even though an ultimatum has been given to Sébastien Lecornu.

To read: easyJet France: anger is mounting, a strike looming in August?

Reform of the employment-retirement accrual: patchwork, without taking cabin crew out of the text

Indeed, according to the flyer, the ministerial team has not been able to offer a firm solution to the problem raised by the interunion.

For reference, the reform, which will come into force on January 1, 2027, provides that all earnings, including unemployment benefits, could be deducted from the CRPN pension. Yet the CRPN is a private and mandatory retirement fund.

The unions fear that the State will seize the reserves and, more broadly, that “unpaid CRPN pensions” would go to “fuel the public accounts.”

For now, this would amount to little more than “patchwork,” in the words of the various unions who attended the meeting, which was proposed without removing the PNC from the reform text.

Following the meeting with the Ministry of Labor, a new letter was sent to Sébastien Lecornu, after the July 8 letter that remained unanswered.

In addition to recalling the recent context, with the three visits to ministerial offices, the letter explains that these meetings have allowed to confirm “that applying this reform to cabin crew constitutes an unanticipated side effect, arising from the lack of consultation and impact assessment on the specificities of air transport.”

Aviation: the interunion demands a written commitment by July 31, 2026!

The decision on this possible exclusion of PNC now rests with the Prime Minister. And the answer should not be delayed.

The不可-negotiable deadlines tied to the settlement of CRPN pensions require a solution to be decided by July 31, 2026.

Otherwise, a wave of early departures cannot be prevented, posing a risk of a major industrial accident in French air transport, with particularly heavy operational, economic, and social consequences
“, the communication states.

If by the end of the month no serious response is provided to the unions’ demands, France could face a nationally significant social movement.

The interunion simply wants the complete exclusion of cabin crew from the new reform scheme and does not want a mere alternative solution designed to limit its impact.

They also want to participate in the legislative work planned within the framework of the 2027 Social Security financing bill, since that is where the reform is positioned.

In the absence of a written commitment before July 31, 2026, or if the commitments made should not be respected during the drafting of the bill in the autumn, our organizations will take responsibility.

They will then undertake the necessary steps to organize nationwide, large-scale strikes
“, the letter concludes, also signed by the SNPL.

The countdown has begun…

easyJet France: Strike Confirmed for July and August

CroisiEurope

The tension seems to have reached its peak in the cabins of French aircraft.

While the inter-union of France’s cabin crew threatens a large-scale social movement across all carriers operating in our country, at easyJet the strike is no longer merely a threat. It is set to become a reality.

Last week, we explained that within the orange-liveried company, the flight attendants were lamenting a “catastrophic situation.”

The cause? Scheduling instability. “I have been on duty since 2008, so I know this problem well and how it has evolved, but I have never seen anything like this. The situation is unprecedented. People have no fixed schedule. They are changed for almost anything, sent to the four corners of Europe“, lamented William Bourdon, secretary of the SNPNC-FO section.

A last-chance meeting took place this Thursday, July 23, 2026 with management. It ended in failure.

In a statement, the SNPNC places the responsibility for the coming social action squarely on… management.

Management has also lied about night flights, which were not supposed to occur and are now multiplying nonetheless. The way navigators’ lives are organized has become impossible.

These malfunctions, which management refused to address seriously, render the situation untenable for crews today and jeopardize passenger safety. (…) The proposals put forward proved markedly insufficient and aimed only at buying time
“, states the document.

In light of this assessment, it is not only the SNPNC-FO, but all of the airline’s PNC unions—including UNPNC-CFDT—who filed a strike notice.

A letter has been sent to management to inform them of the decision taken at the end of this last meeting.

Thus, the SNPNC-FO and the other representative organizations for the stewards and air stewards have decided to exercise this right and urge the employees they represent to stop working.

As required by law, employees whose absence would directly affect flight operations must inform the employer of their “intention to participate in the strike no later than forty-eight hours before“, as well as the rules governing passenger information.

Given this framework, the unions did not set any date in their strike notice.

They will therefore inform management in accordance with the law, i.e., 48 hours before the start of the walkouts. The letter likewise specifies the unions’ demands aimed at addressing scheduling instability.

They demand the immediate implementation of concrete measures guaranteeing scheduling stability, with a maximum of three changes per month per employee, excluding operational events not attributable to the company, the immediate cessation of layovers without explicit authorization from the employee concerned, and the actual return to voluntary work.

They also request the introduction of a specific night-flight allowance and an immediate revision of onboard procedures.

The signatory unions say they remain at the disposal of management if the latter truly wants to move things forward. This social movement was hardly in doubt, given that the vast majority of SNPNC members had expressed support for this solution.

If no date has been mentioned, there is little doubt that the strike could take place in the coming days and even in August. It will inevitably lead to massive flight cancellations, we are told.

The ball is in easyJet France management’s court.

Réaction de la direction d’easyJet :

We are very disappointed that one of the unions representing our cabin crew based in France has announced a potential action despite our proposals to adjust and address their concerns.

While negotiations are already planned for September, we urge the unions to abandon this counterproductive move at a time that is so important for our customers,” the company stated.

SNCF: Four Unions Call for a Strike on June 10

- Depositphotos.comAuteur Andrei Antipov

IFTM prenez RDV avec TourMaG

In a joint statement published on May 6, 2026 in Paris, the four unions CGT Cheminots, UNSA Ferroviaire, SUD-Rail and CFDT Cheminots call for a strike on June 10.

The representative organizations of SNCF employees warn about the lack of progress during the consultations carried out in recent weeks with management. They denounce in particular a policy of reorganisation deemed « anxiogenic », as well as the consequences of the restructurings on working conditions and employees’ health.

The unions mention several areas of concern: job cuts, internal reorganisations, mandated professional mobility and the evolution of the group’s structure through the process of subsidiaryisation.

According to them, these transformations would weaken the social unity of the railway group and could call into question certain historic collective agreements.

The text also highlights wage demands. They ask management to respond to the railway workers’ expectations regarding purchasing power and working conditions.

Jean Castex: Opening up to competition entails profound changes

Invited to the Travel Industry Congress on Monday, May 4, Jean Castex, President of the SNCF Group, did not hide the substantial transformation program confronting the company: “ Competition pushes us to be more competitive; it is not easy. The situation remains complex.

There is a major HR project in the background, with sustained discussions with the trade unions. We are committed to a transformation logic that must be gradually supported.

Since my arrival in November, there have been no strikes at Christmas nor in February. I hope that the month of May will allow progress in a calmer climate, but that requires constant work. It is a daily battle. Nothing is done by decree and the difficulties are real, all the more so because opening up to competition entails profound changes
.”

Portugal: General Strike on June 3 Threatens Transport

Top of Travel

Portugal is bracing for a day of transport disruption. A nationwide general strike, planned for June 3, 2026, called by CGTP, the main Portuguese trade union confederation (Confederação Geral dos Trabalhadores Portugueses – Intersindical Nacional), could significantly disrupt flights, trains, metros, ferries and bus networks across the country, just weeks ahead of the peak tourism season.

According to the Portuguese public broadcaster RTP Notícias, the Federation of Transport and Communications Unions says that “all transport companies” are mobilized and that strike notices have already been filed.

The disruptions are expected to affect: the national railway company CP, and suburban trains, as well as metros, ferries, and urban buses in Lisbon and Porto.

Disruptions Expected in Public Transport

Air transport could also be heavily affected. The SNPVAC union, representing the cabin crew, has confirmed its participation in the social movement. According to RTP, TAP, Ryanair and easyJet flights could be disrupted.

Several Portuguese media outlets report up to 500 flights affected. The French-language magazine based in Portugal, Vivre le Portugal, which relays information from SIC Notícias, indicates that TAP could be particularly affected.

This mobilization aims to protest the government’s reform of labor law. The unions denounce, in particular, measures that facilitate dismissals and loosen certain subcontracting rules.
